The Karkonosze region delivered a perfect mix of mountain trails, history, engineering and pure fun. We started underground, exploring the Uranium mine in Kowary a raw, atmospheric place where cold rock corridors and remnants of secret operations create a uniquely authentic experience. In addition, the wacky young guide created a very friendly and amusing atmosphere.

From there the route climbed higher: a cable‑car ride to Kopa, walks along the ridges, and stops at classic landmarks like the waterfalls and the famous Chybotek boulder balancing on its granite base.

Between the mountain sections we added a few quieter discoveries: castles scattered across the foothills and the miniature world of Modelarnia Kolejkowo, where every detail is crafted with almost obsessive precision. On the Czech side, a visit to the aquapark provided a welcome break from hiking.

The trip ended in a completely different landscape — an industrial loop around the Turów mine and power plant, crossing through Czechia and Germany. Massive machines, wide open pits and the scale of the entire complex created a striking contrast to the natural scenery of the mountains. A varied, engaging journey through places that show the Karkonosze from many unexpected angles.
