Batumi is a city of contrasts—modern skyscrapers rising right next to old Soviet-era apartment blocks, a lively city center bordering quiet districts of small wooden houses, and streets that are permanently busy, chaotic, and somehow charming at the same time. It’s a place that feels raw and vibrant, full of energy, noise, colour, and life.

We spent a lot of time simply walking around without a specific plan, letting the city reveal itself step by step. Wandering through the narrow streets, watching everyday life unfold, and soaking in the atmosphere was the best way to understand Batumi. One afternoon we took the cable car up to the hill overlooking the city—an incredible panorama stretching from the coastline to the mountains. We also visited the interactive Vincent van Gogh exhibition, explored the gardens in the city center, and spent a quiet morning at the Batumi Botanical Garden just outside town.

Chaotic, loud, and unpredictable, yet warm, welcoming, and full of character—Batumi left a strong impression on us. It’s a city that doesn’t try to be perfect, and maybe that’s exactly why it’s so memorable.
