Kalmar and Karlskrona

Our journey led us to the magnificent Kalmar Castle, a fortress with over 800 years of history. Once known as ‘the key to the kingdom,’ this Renaissance castle has witnessed royal banquets, fierce battles, and even ghostly legends. Walking through its grand halls, deep dungeons, and secret passageways, we felt the weight of history surrounding us. The castle’s golden ceilings contrast sharply with the cannonball-marked walls, telling stories of both elegance and war.

However, the exhibition inside was almost too dark and terrifying for us. The dim lighting, eerie sound effects, and unsettling historical displays created an atmosphere that sent chills down our spines. The stories of executions, betrayals, and ghostly sightings made it feel like stepping into a haunted past. It was an intense experience—one that lingered long after we left the castle.

After the unsettling visit, we spent our final day in Scandinavia at Skönstavik Camping, waiting for the ferry. The peaceful surroundings of the campsite provided a much-needed contrast to the castle’s eerie atmosphere. With stunning sea views, lush greenery, and the soothing sounds of nature, it was the perfect place to unwind before heading home. As we watched the sun set over the water, we reflected on the incredible journey, knowing this was the last stop before leaving Scandinavia.
